It wasn’t so long ago the World Wide Web was some arcane phrase a dude hanging out in Switzerland thought up. But now the same dude—Tim Berners-Lee—and some others, like Ken Baclawski of Northeastern University, are well along on pushing the next phase of the revolution: the Semantic Web. It’s deep stuff, but the basic idea here is to provide a common framework based on meaning or concepts that allows data to be readily shared across applications and other boundaries—and, in the end, makes it more accessible.
