Cambridge, MA-based Brightcove, which rolled out an overhauled version of its Internet video publishing platform last month, notified users in an e-mail and blog post yesterday that it will shut down the Brightcove Network, a free advertising-supported version the platform, on December 17. Launched in 2006, the Brightcove Network and its showcase site Brightcove.tv were designed for small publishers—who happen to be the target group for the new “Brightcove Basic” service, a version of the Brightcove 3 platform that will priced at “several hundred dollars a month,” according to Adam Berrey, Brightcove’s senior vice president of marketing and strategy.
