$20M for Surface Logix, $5M for Veracode, $14M for Stemgent, and More Boston-Area Deals News

It’s all about smallish venture deals and acquisitions of indeterminate size this week. Maybe next week New England’s tech and life sciences companies will only announce partnerships?

—Vitalize Consulting Services, a Reading, MA-based manager of IT implementation projects for big healthcare companies, acquired Santa Ana, CA-based r3 Health Partners for an undisclosed sum.

Surface Logix raised $15 million in venture capital from Arch Venture Partners, HBM BioVentures, Healthcare Focus, Intel Capital, Saudi Venture Development, Unilever Technology Ventures, and Venrock Associates. The Brighton, MA-based firm, which is developing treatments for obesity and diabetes, also secured a $5 million loan from Silicon Valley Bank.

—Stemgent of Cambridge, MA, and San Diego reportedly raised $14 million from investors including HealthCare Ventures and Morgenthaler Ventures. The startup is developing proprietary reagents and tools for use in stem cell research.

—Software-security firm Veracode of Burlington, MA, reportedly collected half of a $10 million third financing round. Backers participating in the round include Atlas Venture, .406 Ventures, Macrovision, Polaris Venture Partners, and Symantec.

—North Billerica, MA-based biological research tool maker Seahorse Bioscience acquired Woburn, MA-based BioProcessors Corp., also a maker of tools for biomedical research, for an undisclosed sum. Seahorse also raised $6 million in new venture funding from Commonwealth Capital, Oxford Bioscience, Flagship Ventures, Life Sciences Partners, FLIR Systems Inc, Healthcare Ventures, New Science Ventures, HLM Venture Partners, and others.

—Boston, MA-based Bain Capital Ventures and Bellevue, WA-based Ignition Partners led a $5.5 million Series C financing for Enclarity, a healthcare IT company based in Aliso Viejo, CA.

—Boston’s Spark Capital was reportedly among the investors in a $5 million in Series B funding round for New York-based OMGPOP, an online gaming and social networking site for young people. Bessemer Venture Partners, which has an office in Wellesley Hills, MA, led the deal, and Baseline Ventures of San Francisco participated as well.
