    CoAptus Medical Corporation is an early stage medical device company developing a therapeutic product for the treatment of a structural heart defect called a patent foramen ovale, or PFO. A PFO is a flap-like opening, or tunnel between the upper chambers of the heart. Normally, this passageway closes shortly after birth. However, in approximately 25% of the population, the passageway remains open or patent, and may permit the passage of blood clots or chemicals that would normally be filtered by the lungs to pass into the left heart and into the arterial circulation of the body including the brain.
