VMware Springs for SpringSource, Turbine Takes $6.7M, CombinatoRx Teams With Clinical Data, & More Boston-Area Deals News

e-commerce and digital media services for grocery and consumer goods retailers raised $13 million in equity financing from New York, NY, investment firm Stripes Group.

—West Lebanon, NH-based energy storage firm SustainX raised $4 million from unspecified investors. SustainX has developed a system for storing electrical energy in the form of compressed air.

CombinatoRx (NASDAQ:[[ticker:CRXX]]) of Cambridge, MA, agreed to pay Newton, MA-based Clinical Data (NASDAQ:[[ticker:CLDA]]) up to $252 million in milestone fees for rights to a compound to be used in a combination treatment for multiple myeloma and other B-cell cancers.

—Cambridge-based Constellation Pharmaceuticals collected a $17.2 third and final tranche of its Series A financing, which totaled $32 million. Boston’s Third Rock Ventures was behind the launch of the company’s launch and the Series A deal, which was announced last year.

General Catalyst Partners of Cambridge led a $6 million Series B funding round for New York, NY-based Boxee, a provider of software for navigating online video offerings on a TV. Spark Capital of Boston participated in the round.

—Salem, MA-based Fashion Playtes raised $1.5 million in a Series A round of financing led by LaunchCapital and New Atlantic Ventures. The startup’s website, pitched at girls aged 6 to 12, allows users to design their own garments online and purchase them to wear.
