Under the Radar Deals: 20-Something New England December Financings Worth $1M or Less

energy companies, with traditional and not-so-traditional cleantech methodologies. One of the quirkier energy beneficiaries in December was PurposeEnergy, whose objective is to make beer brewing a sustainable operation. The Arlington, MA-based startup aims to convert brewery waste into renewable, bio-energy fuel for reuse by the same brewery. Its website lists Vermont brewery Magic Hat as a partner.

One financing we did happen to write about when news of it broke: the $400,000 FitnessKeeper raised in seed funding from LaunchCapital and a range of individual investors. The developers of the RunKeeper fitness-tracking app for iPhone told Xconomy that the funding will go to expanding the application to other mobile devices and incorporating the app as part of a wider cross-platform fitness ecosystem. (We actually reported the deal when FitnessKeeper’s CEO clued us in on it at the end of November, ahead of the company’s December SEC filing date for the deal, which is how ChubbyBrain tracks startup funding.)
