Hacks and Hackers, a group for journalists using technology and hackers interested in journalism, presents a discussion of Facebook’s role in helping Web writers gain attention for their work. From the event page: “Every day, hundreds of millions of people keep track of what their friends are doing through Facebook’s News Feed. In addition to getting updates from friends, more often people are also getting a range of news filtered by their friends as well as from publishers using Facebook tools. After launching the Like button and other social plugins in April, the Facebook Developer Network team has focused on helping publishers build social experiences and gain viral distribution, increased engagement and referral traffic back to their sites. Justin Osofsky, head of Facebook’s media and content partnerships, and Matt Kelly, an engineer who has worked with dozens of outside partners, will speak about how publishers can best create social experiences and how Facebook Platform can be used with news sites.” Information and registration here.
