8D World, a Woburn, MA-based video game developer, announced today that it has raised a $5.25 million Series B round of funding, from new investor Mizuho Capital, of Japan, and return backers Spark Capital and Gobi Partners. 8D is the maker of World Wiz Online, a virtual world for English-as-a-foreign/second language students. The company said it plans to use the funding to add educational content to the platform and increase the number of users it reaches globally. “We are very happy to have Mizuho Capital join us as investors in 8D World,” said Spark Capital general partner Alex Finkelstein in the announcement of the deal. “We firmly believe Mizuho Capital will be able to bring value to the company with its wide network of relationships in Japan and beyond.”
