Xconomy’s New Frontier of Innovation: New York

Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE: [[ticker:BMY]]) and Pfizer (NYSE: [[ticker:PFE]]). Nearby, in suburban New Jersey, reside Merck (NYSE: [[ticker:MRK]]) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: [[ticker:JNJ]]). All of those companies have been investing heavily in small, innovative biotech firms-the sorts of partnerships that they hope will generate the next wave of blockbuster drugs.

As we’ve learned ever since Xconomy launched in Boston in June 2007, innovation is a hot topic. We have since added Seattle, San Diego, Detroit, and San Francisco to our network. In each city, we’ve been welcomed by local technology and research leaders, entrepreneurs, and economic development officials—all of whom have frequented our sites and flocked to our tailor-made events for folks who work in the industries we cover.

My goal is not to follow, or recycle, the news that everyone else covers, but rather to tell in-depth stories you can’t find elsewhere about the entrepreneurs that are driving innovation in the great city of New York. I’ll bring you stories with national significance, with help from my colleagues across all the cities in Xconomy’s network.

I bring to this job many years of experience covering technology and life sciences. I worked for 10 years as a reporter for BusinessWeek, first in Los Angeles and then in New York. I covered a wide spectrum of tech and life sciences industries, including the Internet, semiconductors, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and health care. The myriad contacts I made during that time will be invaluable in helping me dig out the great stories of innovation in New York.

Here’s what you’ll find on Xconomy New York:

  • Daily breaking news and in-depth analysis of developments in life sciences, infotech, and clean technology companies based in and near New York.
  • Profiles of innovative people who can share their insights on how to bring good ideas to the market, and advice about what works and what doesn’t.
  • Accurate, balanced, in-depth reporting.
  • Commentary and insight from leading technologists and entrepreneurs across our network.
  • Productive networking events and conferences that feature industry leaders who are on the cutting edge of industry trends and the startup scene.

We hope you’ll make Xconomy a regular stop on your daily Web travels. You can subscribe to our e-mail newsletters or RSS feeds, and follow me on (@awjourn). We’re mobile-friendly (at m.xconomy.com, though most mobile Web browsers will redirect you there automatically), and we also have a daily Kindle edition. And I welcome your comments and story ideas. You can reach me at [email protected] or the entire team at [email protected].
