Where Acquired by eBay

Boston-based Where, a developer of technology for location-based mobile advertising and services, has been acquired by San Jose, CA-based eBay (NASDAQ: [[ticker:EBAY]]), according to a post today on the PayPal (part of eBay) blog. Financial terms were not revealed, but the acquisition of Where is expected to close later this quarter.  Last December, Where, which has roughly 85 employees and boasts 4 million monthly users, nabbed a patent covering its “geofencing” technology—which involves establishing a virtual perimeter around a real-world area and alerting users of location-based services (like deals from retailers) once they have entered that area.
