Tweetdeck Alights at Twitter

Tweetdeck founder Iain Dodsworth confirmed in a blog post today that his London-based company, maker of a popular desktop and mobile client for managing multiple Twitter feeds, has been purchased by Twitter itself. Despite speculation that San Francisco-based Twitter will kill the product—which some have viewed as competition for Twitter’s own Web and mobile clients—Dodsworth told AllThingsD today that Tweetdeck’s “products will stay the same and we’ll continue to develop them, with obviously a more coordinated approach since we’re all one company.” And Twitter itself says in a blog post today, “We will continue to invest in the TweetDeck that users know and love,” which it says has a unique following among brands, publishers, and marketers. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
