Compuware Scoops Up DynaTrace, Medtronic Buys Salient Surgical, Avedro Snaps Up $25M, & More Boston-Area Deals News

—Another midwestern firm (medical device giant Medtronic) acquired a Boston-area company this week: Portsmouth, NH-based Salient Surgical. Medtronic paid $525 million for Salient, which makes devices that stop bleeding and seal wounds by allowing surgeons to apply focused radio-frequency energy and saline solution to collagen fibers in the body.

—Cambridge-based power management startup Gridco took in $12.5 million in funding, an SEC filing showed. Ric Fulop of North Bridge Venture Partners,  Hemant Taneja of General Catalyst Partners, and Sycamore Networks veteran Naimish Patel are listed as directors of the company.

—Qualtré, a Marlborough, MA-based maker of motion sensor technology for electronics, snapped up $10 million from Matrix Partners and Pilot House Ventures.

—Newton, MA-based TripAdvisor acquired a Chicago-based social travel company called Where I’ve Been. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but Where I’ve Been’s entire product team will join TripAdvisor, according to a company statement
