Reinventing Fire-An Evening with Amory Lovins

Xconomy Xchange: Reinventing Fire--An Evening with Amory Lovins

Amory LovinsDramatically reducing the nation’s hunger for fossil fuels could lower our impact on the environment and increase energy security. But wouldn’t it also require a dramatic shift in humankind’s approach to the planet? The answer is an emphatic, ‘No,’ says Amory Lovins, cofounder, chairman, and chief scientist of Rocky Mountain Institute. Aided by an array of industry partners, RMI recently published a “grand synthesis” of a U.S. energy solution called Reinventing Fire: Bold Business Solutions for the New Energy Era. It details how to run a 2.6x-bigger economy by 2050 with no oil, no coal, no nuclear energy, one-third less natural gas, and a $5-trillion lower net-present-value internal cost than the way things are currently done. Moreover, the transition could require no new inventions or Acts of Congress, and be led by business for profit.

Reinventing FireWe hope you will join us for this special evening as Lovins, the study’s senior author, gets up close and personal with Flagship Ventures general partner Jim Matheson to explain how this transformation can come about—and highlight some of the disruptive business opportunities his team uncovered.
