Techstars Grad GoSpotCheck Wins Contest to Attend Google’s Demo Day

GoSpotCheck, a Denver-based software startup, is headed to California for the inaugural Google Demo Day.

The company was selected by a panel of local judges to participate in the event, scheduled for April 2 at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

The news was announced Tuesday on the Google for Entrepreneurs Google+ page.

GoSpotCheck is a Techstars Boulder graduate that makes software that enables companies and their field teams “to collect, structure, and analyze retail intelligence,” according to its website. One use case is making sure a brand’s products receive the shelf space and location that retailers have promised. The data collected by field teams also can be used to interpret why products are selling better at certain retail locations.

GoSpotCheck competed against seven other companies, said Galvanize managing director Lawrence Mandes, who helped organize the local event. Galvanize is a co-working space for tech startups in Denver and is part of Google for Entrepreneurs’ tech hub program.

Google (NASDAQ: [[ticker:GOOG]]) set the terms by which the companies would be judged. It wanted businesses that had a live product and were seeking or about to begin seeking investment. Mandes said GoSpotCheck met the criteria and made a compelling presentation.

“They delivered a great pitch,” Mandes said. “They’ve showed great progress with clients, and their revenues are increasing.”

GoSpotCheck is one of 10 startups from around the country that will make the trip. They’ll make their pitch in front of a panel of investors that will include AOL co-founder Steve Case. The panel will give them feedback on their presentations and their ideas. Google also is inviting Bay Area angel investors and venture capitalists to attend the event, so startups like GoSpotCheck could make connections with investors, Mandes said.

The startups will get the chance to do some networking while on the coast. Galvanize will host an event for the startups at its new building in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, Mandes said.

Companies also will have the chance to meet with Google product experts, according to Google.
