Frontiers in Science: How Topera Maps Abnormal Currents of the Heart

Dr. Sanjiv Narayan, UC San Diego professor of medicine and a specialist in electrophysiology, teamed with medical device entrepreneur Ruchir Sehra to found San Diego-based Topera. The startup has created a 3D heart-mapping and analysis workstation is used to more precisely pinpoint the origin of electrical impulses causing heart arrhythmias. Topera has received FDA clearance and attracted nearly $30 million in venture funding. This new diagnostic approach represents a marked improvement over current state-of-the-art technology by reducing hospital re-admissions by about 60 percent.
