This week, we’re tracking new funding for several Boston tech companies, an acquisition, and a new outpost for the Cambridge Innovation Center. Here are the details:
—San Francisco-based Xamarin, which has an office in Boston, said it purchased Swedish software company RoboVM for an undisclosed price. Both companies offer a software platform for developing mobile apps, primarily for enterprise customers, but Xamarin is focused on the C# programming language, while RoboVM enables development in Java.
—Vee24, a Cambridge, MA-based company providing live video chat technologies that help businesses interact with consumers, raised $8.8 million from investors in a new equity funding round, according to an SEC filing.
—Cloud storage provider Sonian raised $7.5 million in venture debt funding from Ares Capital, according to a press release. Based in Dedham, MA, Sonian said it has been on a growth spurt over the past year: it added more than 2,500 customers—it now has more than 20,000—and hired 13 people.
—Mobiquity, a Wellesley, MA-based enterprise mobile app developer and marketer, raised $5 million from investors, according to a new SEC filing.
—Outlearn, a new Boston edtech startup, announced the launch of its product and $2 million in seed funding from General Catalyst Partners and former Akamai CEO Paul Sagan. Outlearn created a cloud publishing platform and online community where professional software developers can learn and sharpen skills.
—Boston-based Ourglass announced $1.6 million in seed funding from General Catalyst Partners and others, which is being used to push its iOS app that allows users to share things with 12 of their closest friends. Ourglass isn’t the first to create a private social network to counter the likes of Facebook, and others have had varying degrees of success.
—The Cambridge Innovation Center reportedly plans to open a Miami location, continuing its expansion beyond the Boston area. The organization—which runs facilities that house startups, host tech events, and help connect companies with resources—also has a St. Louis outpost and announced plans earlier this year for its first international location, in the Netherlands.
