Cancer Stem Cells and Recurring Tumors

Inder Verma, Professor in the Laboratory of Genetics at the Salk Institute for Biological Medicine, is bringing a new focus on the role played by cancer stem cells, which are capable of self-renewal and differentiation. As a result, cancer stem cells may continue to generate tumors, causing relapse and metastasis to other organs. Verma will discuss the versatility of a cancer cell and what can be learned from determining its genetic make-up. He will then explain how new information can be used to develop personalized treatments. Note early lunch begins at 11:45 am. More information and online registration is available here.
