The Startup Game Seen Through the Eyes of Two Generations of Venture Capitalists

William H. Draper III, a general partner at Draper Richards in San Francisco, is one of the first venture capitalists on the West Coast. His book, “The Startup Game,” takes a close look at how the relationship between venture capitalists and entrepreneurs is critical to enhancing the success of any economy. His son Tim is the founder and managing director of Menlo Park, CA-based Draper Fisher Jurvetson, the cornerstone of the DFJ Global Network of Funds, which has backed more than 600 companies, including such household names as Hotmail, Skype, and Twitter. In San Diego, Draper Richards backed the video codec developer, DivX, and Draper Fisher Jurvetson has invested in the industrial biotech startups Genomatica and Synthetic Genomics.
