Outbrain Raises $35M in Series D Round Led by Index Ventures

New York-based startup Outbrain said in a press release issued Wednesday that it raised $35 million in a Series D funding round led by Index Ventures with participation from existing investors Carmel Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Founded in 2006, Outbrain created a recommendation engine that suggests stories and other material to readers who visit websites run by content publishers such as Mashable, CNN, and Fox News. Dominique Vidal, a partner with Index Ventures, joined Outbrain’s board of directors in conjunction with the latest funding. Thus far Outbrain has raised $64 million in total financing.

Outbrain said in the press release it plans to use the latest funding for business development and expansion. Last February, Outbrain raised $11 million and acquired recommendation platform Surphace. Outbrain’s other backers include GlenRock Israel, Gemini Israel Funds, and Rhodium.
