The ‘Quantified Self’ and the Future of Personal Health

The rise of personal sensing and medical tracking technologies are triggering changes throughout the healthcare industry. Whole genome sequencing and personalized medicine are generating new approaches to both preventive medicine and treatment. Combine all these advances, and you have unprecedented capabilities for “quantified health.” Three leaders of this emerging field are holding forth at UC San Diego’s Atkinson Hall, the home of the California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Techology (CalIT2). They are science writer Gary Wolf, co-founder of “The Quantified Self” blog; Larry Smarr, founding director of CalIT2; and Eric Topol, a cardiologist, healthcare innovator and pioneer in the fields of wireless medicine and genomics.
