Software Opportunities in the Smart Grid with SDG&E

Modernization of the power grid is taking place on a scale comparable to the development of the Internet, with expenditures on “smart grid” technology projected to be more than $2 trillion over the next 40 years. A new generation of software is needed for such diverse applications as smart meter management and analytics; integration of variable solar and wind power and electric vehicles; energy efficiency for buildings, homes and data centers; electrical system modeling and operational control; grid security; and many others. San Diego Gas & Electric is emerging as a leaders in the implementation of smart grid technology. Josh Gerber, lead architect for SDG&E’s smart grid roadmap, will present an overview of the San Diego smart grid, including deployment status, challenges and gaps, and how to work with SDG&E.
