The San Diego region has long been a leading hub for genome sequencing and molecular diagnostics. Now these technologies are moving genomics beyond pure R&D applications. Initial commercial applications for clinical use include non-invasive prenatal testing and genome sequencing of tumors in cancer diagnostics. However, this evolution of genomic medicine has led to new bottlenecks in IT infrastructure, analytics, and big data management, and therein lie new opportunities.
