There has been a change at the top at MPOWERD.
Co-founder Jacques-Philippe Piverger is out and Scott Kling has taken over as CEO of the New York-based startup, which develops a line of inflatable, solar powered lights.
On Wednesday, MPOWERD put out word that Kling had become its top executive, having previously served as president and chief operating officer. He was not immediately available for an interview.
MPOWERD is not saying much for now, but Piverger is no longer with the company, according to a spokesperson. No further explanation on the parting of ways was given. In addition to the CEO change, Valarie Gelb, CEO of consulting firm TheBarnYardGroup, has become chair of MPOWERD.
Luci, MPOWERD’s chief product, is a lantern that can be used in emergency situations where no power is available, as well as in remote places that lack energy sources or for casual use in homes. It is also billed as an alternative to kerosene lamps.
Prior to joining MPOWERD, Kling had been CEO of SolarX Energy, a New York-based maker and distributor of solar energy products. He became chief operating officer at MPOWERD in 2013 and was named president last year.
According to MPOWERD’s statement, Kling had been managing day-to-day operations at the company since becoming president.
