What’s On Tap? Hardin Design & Development

With everyone getting ready to enjoy a long holiday weekend—and perhaps raise a cold brew or two in salute to Old Glory—it’s a good time to bring you another installment in our ongoing series exploring the beers on tap at the headquarters of Wisconsin tech companies. Up next: Hardin Design & Development.

The 21-person company, which is based in Madison and has a small office in Dallas, creates custom software and Web and mobile apps for clients ranging from Disney to Ford to CNN. The team is led by CEO Jon Hardin; vice president of development Kyle Crossman; and vice president Scott Resnick, the former Madison city council member who was recently named executive director of the StartingBlock Madison initiative. They have created a fun office environment punctuated by quirky posters on the wall; a game room with Pop-A-Shot and ping-pong and pool tables; and a beer keg, of course.

Here’s Crossman on how the Hardin team likes to unwind:

What’s on tap at Hardin?

We’ve had Spotted Cow, Bell’s Two Hearted, Moon Man, among others. This is a hotly debated topic.

Who chooses the brews?

There’s a couple different ways. We run a March Madness pool in which the winner gets to pick. Other than that, we utilize a poll. I believe there are shady under-dealings that result in the ultimate choice, but that’s just me.

Kegs, bottles, or cans?

We have a keg, but the other two are encouraged as well.

Office happy hour?

Happy hour takes place on the occasional Friday.

Best thing/worst thing about beer in the office?

Good things that have happened:

—Mario Party

—Craft beer posters on the wall

—Ping-pong tournaments

Bad things that have happened: I don’t remember if anything bad has happened.
