Salesforce is hiring more than 800 people in Indianapolis during the next five years as part of its plan to spend $40 million expanding its regional headquarters in the city over the next decade, the company said in a statement this month.
The San Francisco-based company already employs about 1,000 people in Indianapolis, and more than 20,000 people worldwide. Salesforce (NYSE: [[ticker:CRM]]) plans to begin moving into its new building, located at 111 Monument Circle, in 2017.
Salesforce has been expanding its business operations, both through internal development and acquisitions. It paid $212 million for application platform provider Heroku in 2010, bought Seattle startup Thinkfuse in 2012 for an undisclosed price, and purchased Austin online security startup Toopher in another private sale, to name a few. The big local deal, of course, was its $2.5 billion acquisition of Indy-based ExactTarget in 2013.
The cloud-based customer relationship management company also has actively adapted its products to mobile environments, and has even stepped into the education sector. Last year, it began offering to the general public a free online training school, Trailhead, meant to help teach people how to better use Salesforce software to help employers with everything from creating sales apps to mining data generated by connected devices.
