Vaccines are one of the most cost effective medical treatments in modern civilization, and have saved close to a billion lives to date. Still, there are just 25 human vaccines that exist worldwide, and virtually all of them have been developed in a highly trial-and-error manner, without much understanding of how the immune system actually responds to vaccines. Connect has organized this “Frontiers of Science” presentation by Shane Crotty of the La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology to discuss a recent discovery that could eventually speed the development of more effective vaccines.
