EnglishCentral Lands $3.5M Round

EnglishCentral, a provider of a video-based system for learning English online, has raised $3.5 million in an equity financing, according to an SEC filing. We published in October a report that the Lexington, MA-based firm raised an undisclosed amount of equity funding from Atlas Venture and Google Ventures, both of which have offices in the Boston area. This round includes $1.4 million in loans converted to stock. Alan Schwartz, EnglishCentral’s CEO, wasn’t immediately available for comment this morning. His board includes Axel Bichara of Atlas Venture and Rich Miner of Google Ventures.
