Bellevue, WA-based online background check and information commerce company Intelius, agreed today to pay $1.3 million in a legal settlement, according to a report by TechFlash. The Washington State Attorney General’s Office handled the dispute, which was part of an ongoing effort to prevent “post-transaction marketing” tactics that unknowingly rope consumers into adding and paying for additional services after they sign up for an initial online service. Intelius has been the subject of a number of class action lawsuits in the past, including one back in October when it was accused of violating the state’s Consumer Protection Act. In addition to the fine, the settlement includes a number of injunctions put in place to prevent the company from further participation in any “post-transaction marketing.” For more information, see the story at TechFlash.
