New York-based 10gen, maker of the MongoDB open-source distributed database much beloved by Web developers and software engineers, said today that it’s opening an office in the San Francisco Bay area in order to “meet the demand for support and services among the growing MongoDB user base.” The Bay Area office will include engineering, support, and sales staff, the company said. “With recent production installations at major companies like Shutterfly, the New York Times, Etsy, foursquare, and bit.ly, it’s crucial to have the infrastructure in place to support the demand for enterprise services,” 10gen co-founder and director Kevin Ryan said in a statement. The company also announced two hires, adding Roger Bodamer as senior vice president for products and engineering and Kerry Ancheta as senior vice president of worldwide sales.
