Lisa Cohen is the executive director of the Washington Global Health Alliance, a coalition of the state’s leading global health research and development organizations. WGHA is dedicated to enhancing and expanding Washington State’s impact on health issues worldwide by facilitating collaborations and innovative partnerships between
members and additional interested stakeholders. WGHA members include PATH, Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, University of Washington, Washington State University, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, the Infectious Disease Research Institute, Institute for Systems Biology, Pacific Northwest National Labs, Seattle Children’s GAPPS program, Seattle-King County Public Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Prior to creation of WGHA, Ms. Cohen spent 25 years in journalism as a newsroom manager for Seattle television affiliates KOMO, KING, KIRO and KCPQ, and as a documentary and special projects producer for CBS “60 Minutes”. She served as interim Executive Director for Seattle CityClub and as Communication Advisor for Governor Christine Gregoire during the 2004 election. She is an adjunct journalism
professor at the University of Washington, where she earned degrees in Broadcast Journalism and International Communications. She serves on advisory boards for Global Washington, “We Work for Health”, the University of Washington, Evans School of Public Affairs, SBRI’s BioQuest program and the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association. She is a newly-appointed member of the Seattle Community Colleges Chancellor’s Advisory Committee.
