San Antonio—General Assembly and San Antonio co-working space Geekdom are hosting a day of free tech workshops and training in San Antonio this weekend.
The event is being held Saturday at the Geekdom Event Centre starting at 2 p.m. and is open to the public, though the hosts are asking for online RSVPs here. The agenda includes a course on web development meant to help people begin to learn coding, an explainer class on the value of user experience design, and a class about how to create and implement a social media strategy.
New York-based General Assembly has 15 campuses around the world. While the company is always exploring prospective new markets, Austin is currently the only Texas location, says spokeswoman Marissa Arnold. Events like this one are intended to give people who aren’t based in Austin access to General Assembly’s classes, workshops, and events, Arnold wrote in an e-mail.
A few people involved in the San Antonio tech scene are participating in a panel discussion at 5 p.m. Saturday about what’s happening locally. The panel includes Marina Gavito, the executive director of tech advocacy group Tech Bloc; Don Douglas, the CEO of telecommunications and network management company Liquid Networx; Pat Matthews, the CEO of file infrastructure company Filestack; and tech attorney Debra Innocenti.
