DOTS Devices, a stealthy new startup based outside of Boston, has raised about $8 million in equity and other securities, according to a document filed with the SEC today.
The company could raise another $500,000 in this funding round, as the SEC filing shows a total offering amount of $8.5 million.
A Google search didn’t turn up a company website, and CEO Renuka Babu Brown couldn’t be immediately reached for comment. The company lists a business address in Natick, MA, located about 25 miles west of Boston.
DOTS appears to be developing technology that would be used for rapid, on-the-spot detection of allergens, including food allergens, according to a patent application posted on the World Intellectual Property Organization website. The company filed the patent application last year, the website says.
Brown has worked as Boston University’s executive director of new ventures, according to her LinkedIn profile. The company’s chief scientific officer, Adi Gilboa-Geffen, is a postdoctoral researcher in Harvard Medical School’s Immune Disease Institute, according to LinkedIn.
The company’s board chair is Josh Makower, a San Francisco-based general partner with venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates, according to LinkedIn.
